Plant Pathogen Detection and Microbiome Monitoring

The microbial communities (microbiomes) in hydroponic systems affect the overall health, robustness, and yield of the plants. Our services at Health Hydroponics help you detect and monitor the pathogens and microbiome in your hydroponic system allowing you ensure the highest quality of crops and the long-term surveillance of the health of your hydroponic system.

Healthy Hydroponics analyzes the relative abundance of pathogens and other microorganisms in hydroponic systems in relation to the crop and environmental conditions in the controlled agriculture environment. This helps us to analyze trends over multiple samples and systems that allow certain pathogens and microorganisms to thrive. Routine monitoring of the microbiome helps you to anticipate the conditions that allow pathogens to proliferate can help growers be more prepared for potential future outbreaks or mitigate pathogens before they take hold.

We test water samples, root, and leaf tissues using sequence-based methods. Special tests not listed here may be available by requests. Please contact us at info@healthyhydroponics.ca for more information.

Currently, this detection method is not available for viruses.

Dectection Method: Sequence-based

The sequence-based method captures the widest breadth of pathogens and other microorganisms and can detect novel variants that qPCR and ImmunoStrip tests cannot. It also allows high-throughput of DNA to be sequenced simultaneously making it more cost-effective for the number of results returned. The sequence-based method helps determine the overall hydroponic health, long-term surveillance of various microbial populations including human pathogens, analysis of trends in the controlled environment, and identification of potential plant-growth-promoting microorganisms.

TestDescriptionDetection
Plant and Human Pathogen AnalysisIdentifies plant pathogen bacteria, fungi, and oomycetes in the sample to the species level.Single time point
Pathogen+Identifies plant pathogen and human bacteria, fungi, and oomycete sin the sample to the species level.
Sample information submitted is kept and tracked over time allowing a more comprehensive microbiome analysis over time. This allows an in-depth analysis of microbiome trends within a hydroponic system or for the duration of a crop’s growth cycle. Environmental metadata are submitted along with samples.
